Rebekah Scott Hall Awarded LEED Platinum Certification

Monday, October 15, 2018

Agnes Scott College is thrilled and proud to announce that Rebekah Scott Hall has been certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, and Platinum is the highest-level rating.

Under the 2009 LEED Building, Design and Construction scoring system, Rebekah Scott Hall achieved LEED Platinum certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. With its certification, Rebekah Scott Hall joins two other LEED-certified buildings on Agnes Scott’s campus—Campbell Hall (LEED Gold) and Anna I. Young Alumnae House (LEED Silver).

A constant thread throughout the planning and construction process of the Rebekah Scott Hall renovation project was Agnes Scott’s commitment to sustainable operations and desire to create a lasting legacy of environmental responsibility, and the highest level of LEED certification is the outstanding result of this commitment. The college's decision to pursue innovative sustainable solutions, including geothermal HVAC for the building that had never been air conditioned on the upper floors, helped with this LEED achievement.

“This renovation of a historic campus landmark to the highest level of LEED certification provides not only a green and healthy home for students and staff who will live and work there but also an innovative learning and gathering location,” says Susan Kidd, executive director of the Center for Sustainability. “With this certification, we have achieved another major milestone for the college as we continue to advance in our sustainability efforts, and we offer an immense thank you to the renovation project team who have been great partners and whose hard work helped us reach the goal of Rebekah being awarded LEED Platinum certification.”

In addition to an on-campus team of Agnes Scott staff, the project design consultants included:

  • CannonDesign (Signage and Exhibits)
  • Carter (Project Management)
  • Eberly & Associates (Civil)
  • HGOR (Landscape)
  • Holder Construction (Construction Manager)
  • Jenkins●Peer Architects (Architectural, Interiors, Furniture, and LEED)
  • Newcomb & Boyd (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)
  • Uzun+Case (Structural)

In addition to achieving LEED Platinum certification, Rebekah Scott Hall was one of two finalists in the Community Impact Award category in the 2018 Georgia Green Awards and received recognition for second place.
